New dog groomers hosts open day in aid of German Shepherd Rescue charity – East Lothian Courier

A NEW dog salon in Tranent is hosting an open day to raise money for an important cause while welcoming people into the business.
Fur the Love of Dogs, located on the town’s High Street, was opened by owner Coral Aston last November and has already become a part of the community.
It is an extension of the existing dog training space, Jurassic Bark, which is owned by Coral’s partner Richard Harding.
The open day on Sunday is about “getting people in the door to have a look, have a chat”, Richard said.

“We’re not trying to get people to buy into anything, we’re trying to donate it all.”
The couple began the grooming business in their home town of Newtongrange, where they rented a table but found that dogs were getting stressed.
The new salon is designed to be a “calm and soothing environment”, similar to a house.
Reflecting on the businesses’ first two months as part of Tranent High Street, Richard said: “It’s been amazing: we’re fully booked months in advance, which is great.
“There’s another business to go round so we believe in helping each other; we all promote each other and support each other.”

Richard only recently started working as a dog trainer professionally but has over a decade of experience and previously trained army dogs.
He will be joined at the open day by a reactivity specialist to offer free training advice for dog owners who attend the event.
Coral will be offering discounted face tidies and nail clips, and a photographer is hosting photoshoot sessions for £15.

All money raised from the open day will be donated to the German Shepherd Rescue charity.
Richard said of German shepherds: “They’re really hard to rehome, they’re not aggressive or anything like that, but because the police use them, people think they’re a wee bit scary.
“But they’re not: all the German shepherd rescue dogs are amazing. We groom them and help train them.
“[The charity] are struggling for money. They don’t get money from the government, it’s all funded from donations, so we just want to help them out.
“They do an amazing job – there’s only two of them and they’re rushed off their feet just trying the get things in place “They deserve the help.”

Alongside the training and grooming sessions, the open day will also feature a raffle, free treat bags and pup cups.
The event takes place at Fur The Love of Dogs on Tranent High Street from 11am until 5pm.
The open day is cash only and services should be booked in advance by contacting the salon.
Richard added: “The open day is great because it gives people the chance to meet us, but we can also use it for good.
“It’s a win-win.”
