Carrollton police respond to aggressive pit bull, leading to fatal shooting – kttn

On January 10, 2025, the Carrollton Missouri Police Department responded to an urgent call about an aggressive dog near a residential property on Highway 65. A neighbor reported that a brown pit bull had jumped their fence and was acting aggressively.
Upon arrival, an officer observed the dog loose in the driveway. The officer contacted the dog’s owner, who was out of town with their partner. The owner requested the officer to return the dog to the residence, however, due to concerns about the dog’s behavior, the officer sought alternative options and asked the owner for further instructions.
As the situation escalated, another individual attempted to guide the dog back into a confined area. The animal began growling, revealing its teeth, and advancing toward the individual, who retreated to the safety of a nearby police vehicle. At this point, the officer called for additional support as the dog’s aggression heightened.
The Chief of Police arrived at the scene to assess the situation. The dog, still aggressive, charged at another individual, prompting the officer to discharge his service weapon. The dog was struck fatally. Following the incident, the animal was transported to an Animal Control facility and placed in an appropriate containment area.
The department is currently reviewing all reports and evidence to ensure that the proper protocols were followed during the incident. Any necessary actions or policy adjustments will be determined after the review.
Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact Captain Celeste Kaiser at the Carrollton Police Department by phone at 660-542-3128.
