Zeppelin's Dirty Dogs set to open doors very 'groom' – The Aspen Times

News News |

They say dogs are man’s best friend, but at Zeppelin’s Dirty Dogs, Aspen’s latest dog grooming establishment, dogs are everyone’s best friend.
There were many glasses raised, along with a few hind legs, on Friday to celebrate the opening of Zeppelin’s Dirty Dogs, located at 600 E. Main St. 9B. Do you know a dirty dog? Perhaps you have one hidden away at home you’re too ashamed to bring out into the light of day because of just how dirty they are? Well, don’t let your pet make you fret, take that dang dirty thing on down to Zeppelin’s Dirty Dogs for some top-notch grooming.
Owner Megan Allen has lived in the valley for the last four years. She said when she first arrived, one of the first things she noticed was how many people walked around town with their dogs. That’s when inspiration struck.
“When I first moved to Aspen, I knew that we needed something that involved dogs,” she said. “So, I’ve been looking for space actually since I moved here. We finally pulled the trigger on this space. We’re just trying to make this also like an aspen feel, so when you come in you have that look when you walk in and you have a cozy little fireplace and get to relax and enjoy the mountain view while your dog gets cleaned off.”
With Friday having served more as a soft opening, Allen said Zeppelin’s will officially be opening its doors Wednesday, April 10. Folks can look forward to self washing stations, doggy daycare, and professional grooming with a private drying room. And if that weren’t enough, while your pups are being spoiled at the spa, pup parents can enjoy complimentary beer and wine while lounging in the lounge.
The shop takes its name from Allen’s own dog Zeppelin, whom she adopted from a high kill shelter six years ago and has been her “soul dog” ever since. As a self-described huge fan of classic rock, Allen has the walls of her shop appropriately decorated with photos of various classic rock musicians posing with their pups.
While this may be her first commercial business, it’s far from her first time helping dogs. As the founder of Zeppelin and Friends Rescue, she has rescued over 600 dogs. You might think that all sounds like a lot of work for one person, and you’d be right. That’s why her mom Lori Oussaty actually moved all the way from Los Angeles to help her.
“She’s amazing,” Allen said. “She quit her career and moved her entire life out here after 28 years, so that we could have a mother-daughter business.”
And as for Zeppelin, when asked what he thinks it’s like running a new business, he replied, “Ruff.”
