Tallest dog Zeus needs leg amputated after devastating cancer diagnosis – Guinness World Records

Zeus, the tallest living male dog, has been diagnosed with bone cancer.
The Great Dane’s upsetting diagnosis means that he’ll have to have his right front leg amputated.
The three-year-old pooch could also have to undergo radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Zeus, who lives in Bedford, Texas, USA, with his loving owner Brittany Davis, was awarded the record in March 2022 with a height of 1.046 metres (3 ft 5.18 in).

Brittany said: “Recently, a beloved member of our family, our dear dog Zeus, has been diagnosed with cancer. He has been a loyal and devoted companion, bringing immeasurable joy and comfort to our lives.
“It is with a heavy heart that we received this diagnosis, and we are now faced not only with emotional challenges but also financial burdens that come with providing the best possible care for our beloved Zeus.”
Zeus has always turned heads during his walkies but became an even bigger star when he officially became a record holder.
Brittany had always wanted a Great Dane and was thrilled one day when her brother Garrett surprised her with an eight-week-old pup.

Zeus was the biggest puppy in the litter, and continued to grow and grow until he made his way into the record books.
As Zeus sat on the sofa next to her in a sweet video, Brittany explained what life is like with such a big canine in the house.
“Zeus is very stubborn,” she said. “He doesn’t do anything unless he wants to.
“He is also very laid back, he loves everybody.”
Zeus is so big that his water bowl is the kitchen sink and when he’s feeling mischievous, he’ll pinch food off the counters too.
Brittany says people often tell her Zeus looks more like a horse and even ask if they can ride him, but of course she tells them he wouldn’t enjoy that at all.
She says Zeus is a “loving dog” who brings so much joy to her family.
Zeus’s owners are raising money to give him the best veterinary care possible throughout his cancer battle.

Brittany said: “As you can imagine, the cost of treating cancer in pets can be quite daunting. We want to do everything in our power to give Zeus a fighting chance, to provide him with the medical attention, treatments, and medications needed to improve his quality of life and potentially extend his time with us.
“In light of this, we are humbly reaching out to our friends, family, and compassionate individuals like you who understand the special bond we share with our pets. Any contribution, no matter how small, would make a significant impact on Zeus’s well-being and the emotional relief for our family during this trying time.
“Rest assured that every dollar raised will go directly towards Zeus’s medical expenses, ensuring that he receives the best care possible.”
