Pune: Alandi Residents Demand Action After Rabid Dog Attacks 50 People, Including Children
In Alandi, located in Pune District, a stray dog suspected to have rabies went on a biting spree, attacking over 50 individuals, including children and elderly people. After the incident, the dog was eventually captured. Residents of Alandi are expressing their concerns and holding the Alandi Municipal Council responsible for not preventing the dog’s attacks earlier.
For several days, the dog had been targeting people in the Bhagirathi Nala area, resulting in bites to 2 children, 11 women, and 31 men. The local authorities were alerted, and the Veterinary Department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) used their Dog Van to apprehend the aggressive dog.
Alandi, known for its pilgrimage and tourist attractions, particularly the Jagatguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Mandir, welcomes thousands of devotees each day. Although the dog has been caught, residents continue to raise concerns about the presence of stray dogs with rabies in public areas, such as the Indrayani Riverside Ghats. The citizens of Alandi are calling on the Alandi Nagar Parishad to implement preventive measures, including vaccinations for stray dogs, to avoid further incidents.
