Newborn baby killed by 'aggressive' sausage dog after vets 'refused to euthanise it' – Daily Record

A newborn baby was killed by an aggressive dachshund despite the owner's euthanasia pleas to vets.
The incident occurred in Seversk, Siberia, where the sausage dog attacked the infant in her crib.
The baby girl, who had only been brought home from the hospital a month prior, was strangled to death by the dog while her parents were asleep, reports the Mirror.
The dog managed to kill the baby without making any noise, such as barking or growling, leading to the parents waking up to their second child dead in her crib.
A family member claimed the dog's aggression increased since the baby's arrival at home.
Despite the family's request for a vet to euthanise the dog due to its aggressive behaviour, they were refused on the grounds the dog was healthy.
As a result, the owners resorted to keeping the dog leashed during the night in an attempt to protect their baby.
However, on the fateful night, they forgot to secure the leash.
A relative shared with local media: "The baby's mother blames herself. But it was a tragic accident.
"It was the middle of the night. The girl was sleeping, and everyone else too, the dog strangled her very quietly.
"This dachshund that lived with them, an eight-year-old dog. It behaved aggressively towards adult owners.
"And when the second child was born in the family in February, the aggression only increased. The parents understood the danger, decided on euthanasia.
"They brought the dog to several clinics, but they were refused, because the animal was physically absolutely healthy."

After the terrible tragedy, the dog was put down. Local investigators released a statement saying: "The daughter's body was discovered in the morning by her mother."
While Dachshunds may appear adorable, their breeding history is of hunting dogs, used traditionally to track down badgers and other burrow animals.
Investigations are delving into the details of the youngster's death, and a criminal negligence case has been opened.
