The Maine State Police and Maine Attorney General’s Office have announced who is responsible for the murders of two women at a Farmington dog kennel that happened more than 14 months ago.
Allison “Joy” Cumming, 53, and her 76-year-old mother, Jean Robinson, were found dead at the Pawsitive Dog Kennel at 274 Red Schoolhouse Road on the morning of Dec. 27, 2023.
Cumming, who owned the kennel, and Robinson both lived in a home on the property with the kennel set up inside a barn.
The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta ruled the women’s deaths homicides and that they died from sharp force injuries.
On Wednesday, state police and the attorney general’s office announced there was probable cause to arrest William Neville Cumming Jr., Robinson’s son and Joy Cumming’s brother, and charge him with two counts of intentional or knowing murder.
Cumming Jr., however, was found dead at his Bar Harbor residence by his father on Dec. 31, 2023. An autopsy determined Cumming Jr.’s death was a suicide.
Authorities said by the time Cumming Jr. had taken his own life, there was evidence to suggest he was responsible for the deaths of his mother and sister.
State police and the attorney general’s office said their findings included forensic testing conducted by the Maine State Crime Laboratory.
