A GoFundMe page is raising money for the burial costs of Owen Kasozi, a Danvers woman who died after falling into a lake in Beverly while she was walking her dog on Christmas Eve.
Kasozi, 30, was walking her dog in J.C. Phillips Nature Preserve at 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve but did not return. A search for Kasozi was conducted by the Beverly Police Department, Beverly Fire Department, the Massachusetts State Police, the state police Airwing unit, and the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC).
The dog was located without Kasozi on Tuesday night in Topsfield and on Christmas, authorities reported that Kasozi was found dead in Wenham Lake in Beverly.
Police believe Kasozi fell into the lake and could not get herself out. No foul play is suspected.
The campaign’s description reads that Kasozi was a “vibrant soul who brought joy and laughter to everyone she met.”
“Her passion for life was infectious, and she had a unique ability to make those around her feel valued and loved,” the campaign description reads. “She cherished her family and friends deeply, and her absence will be felt profoundly in our lives.”
With a goal of $30,000, the campaign has raised $2,338 from 36 donations as of Dec. 26.
