Calgary police say a shooting early Wednesday morning in the community of Greenview sent one person to hospital in life threatening condition.
However, police told Global News the victim is expected to recover.
Officers were called to the scene around 1:20 a.m. for reports of a possible home invasion.
When they arrived they discovered a man in his 60s suffering from a gunshot wound as well as a dog that had also been shot.
The victim was rushed to hospital, while the dog was taken to a vet where investigators said it was in stable condition.
Police have nobody in custody, but officers were canvassing the neighbourhood for possible witnesses or CCTV video that could help with the investigation.
The neighbours who Global News spoke with say they didn’t hear anything, and there were no obvious signs of a struggle.
