UPDATE: The dog rescued by crews from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the Dickson Electric System and the Tennessee Highway Patrol will soon be reunited with its owner in Dickson County.
The dog, whose name we now know to be Apollo, was taken to the Dickson County Humane Society (DCHS) where he was treated by a veterinarian, according to Nashville NBC affiliate WSMV.
While at the shelter, the dog was temporarily called Trooper, and required surgery. Apollo is recovering now, according to the THP.
PREVIOUS STORY: A crew from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) went above and beyond their daily duties, rescuing an injured dog they found.
They were working to remove a tree from the 2400 block of SR 48 in Dickson, TN west of Nashville, when they heard a sound coming from a nearby creek.
When they investigated the sound, they found the injured dog.
The TDOT crew, with help from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, fashioned a makeshift gurney to gently lift the injured pooch safely.
They then took the dog to a nearby shelter, and one crew member donated an entire pallet of dog food to the shelter.
TDOT reported on their Facebook page that the dog is being treated, and were hopeful for a speedy recovery for the animal.
