Sioux City man taken into custody after threatening officers with his dog – KTIV Siouxland's News Channel

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – An Iowa man was arrested Friday morning, after reportedly threatening to release his dog onto officers.
On Friday, Nov. 22, at 7:20 a.m. 43-year-old Derik Medina of Sioux City was arrested after Sioux City officers were called to 802 19th St. to remove a wanted person with a warrant.
Court documents say upon making contact with Medina; he became agitated and threatened to ‘sick his dog’ onto officers. Authorities says the dog was described as either a pitbull or boxer.
Officers say Medina, during the incident, was asked to join officers outside; he reportedly refused and actively resisted.
When officers attempted to apprehend Medina, he allegedly gave the dog a command. Documents say the dog then bit a Sioux City officer on the left calf of his leg, causing injury.
Authorities say Medina continued to resist officers, pushing and refusing to obey the officers’ verbal commands.
He was charged with one count of assault on a person in a certain occupation with intent of injury and one count of interference with official acts.
Medina was booked into the Woodbury County Jail with a bond set for $14,000.
According to documents, a hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at 2 p.m.
