Scrubbing Muzzles a full-service dog and cat grooming service – shorelinemedia.net

Just like a puppy grows to become a dog, and a kitten a cat, Scrubbing Muzzles of Scottville has experienced its own growing pains. But for the all-star dog and cat grooming business that keeps growing, it’s a business that continues to experience a healthy and happy growth.
“We’re really excited to be growing, really quickly,” said Breanna Pagels, who owns the business along with her parents, Greg and Lori Malkowski.
Breanna’s husband, Trent Pagels who is a manager at the Scottville Branch of the West Shore Bank, completes the family business by “…
helping out with some of our bookkeeping, and things like that.”
With a staff of four groomers and animal caretakers, Breanna has been in the animal grooming profession for about 10 years, the last two years being in Scottville.
“We have close to 500 clients from Ludington, Scottville, Branch, we have some people from Baldwin and from Manistee, they come from all over,” she said.
“Most of my clients are ‘regulars’, so we get to know them and their pets, pretty well. Each dog and cat has their own little personalities – sometimes they come in in bad moods, sometimes they’re just not feeling it that day so we kind of have to go a little slower and be a little more patient with them, but most of my little guys are pretty good for me.
“I feel like dogs can have the mentality of a two-year-old – no matter how old they are – they want to play and are super friendly,” Breanna said, laughing. “A lot of them are playful and energetic and while sometimes they might not want to be there, at the end of the day it’s they’re favorite place in the world.
“We have a day care, mostly just for our groomed dogs. For instance, we have some teachers who use our day care and so they’ll drop their pet off in the morning before school and then pick them up after school, and their dog will get groomed during that time. In our day care there are other dogs in there, so they can play together, and if not, then we’ll take them for walks every couple of hours. We try to give them all the attention they’ll need in between our grooms.”
Breanna said Scrubbing Muzzles is fitted with a self-wash station that’s open for walk-in during open hours.
“We do full-service grooming and bathing of dogs and cats,” said Breanna. “We do walk-in nail trims. We pretty much take care of all their grooming needs for your dog, or cat.”
Breanna said spring time, when dogs often find themselves caked in mud and playful happiness, can become particularly challenging for her and her team. And there are those times, too, when an inquisitive dog will get just a bit too close to a skunk.
“Sometimes they have a lot of tangles that we gotta’ get through, or they’ve gone a while without a bath and so they’re pretty dirty,” she said.
“Sometimes we get dogs that have been skunked and we have to take care of that; we basically just scrub them really good and we have a dryer that can help blow all that out, and that helps to get extra dirt that might have been missed. But skunk takes a while to get rid of. We’re kind of used to it, we get all kinds of funky smells and situations.”
Being a full-service pet grooming salon located in downtown Scottville, Breanna said she and her team are ready and qualified to look after dogs and cats of all breeds and sizes.
