SIDNEY – Wags ‘N Whiskers is a new facility that offers pet boarding for dogs and cats, doggy day care, dog baths and dog grooming.
Deb Prater is the owner of another pet boarding facility – Paws & Claws Retreat. Prater had to turn down many boarding requests because the Paws & Claws facility was full, so she and her daughter-in-law Shaylynn Hovestreydt decided to open a second location. Prater purchased a previous boarding location that had closed, and then they renovated it.
Wags ‘N Whiskers opened in time for Thanksgiving 2023. Hovestreydt is the manager for the new location, and also does the on-site dog bathing and grooming.
Wags ‘N Whiskers has approximately two acres of fenced in yard where dogs can play in groups during their stay. The yard has some obstacles like climbing steps and tubes, as well as plenty of shaded areas for dogs to lounge around. When the weather is warm, there are some shallow dog pools available as well.
They have 25 kennels for boarding and most of these kennels have an outdoor run in addition to the indoor space. They also have five exclusively outdoor spots that include a doghouse for dogs that are not used to being inside but still need to be boarded.
Wags ‘N Whiskers is located at 17400 Fort Loramie Swanders Avenue in Sidney. Hours for drop off are Monday – Friday 8-10 a.m. and pick-up is between 4-6 p.m. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 937-710-1301.
