New dog grooming salon in Billings creates a space where pups can feel at home – Billings Gazette

The Divine Dog grooming salon at 1571-A Mullowney Ln. in Billings offers a personalized, calm, kennel-free grooming experience for dogs.
She isn’t new in town, but her one-person, kennel-free grooming business, The Divine Dog, is. Meridian Martonen strives to foster a positive grooming experience for dogs, with personalized one-on-one attention, in a quiet, calm atmosphere. When dogs leave their grooming appointment, she wants them to not only look good, but feel good, too. The Divine Dog is a place where dogs can feel right at home.
Meridian Martonen, owner of The Divine Dog grooming salon at 1571 Mullowney Ln., is shown here grooming one of her regulars, Ollie, an Australian Labradoodle.
“A big, big part of it is I don’t kennel. As soon as we’re done, I just let them go and they get to run around; I think that helps a lot,” Martonen said. “I feel like a majority of dogs aren’t kennel trained, so then, to take them to a groomer and stick them in a kennel for hours is just traumatic.”
The Divine Dog grooming service opened at 1571-A Mullowney Ln., on Jan. 1. At age 28, owner and operator Meridian Martonen has opened after eight years in the industry and a lot of love behind her clippers.
Many of her clients know her from years of grooming in Billings. In fact, 40 of her furry friends (and their parents) have already followed her to her new location. Martonen is continuing her grooming education through seminars and workshops.
“I am a passionate and motivated dog groomer who takes pride in providing meticulous care and services to every dog that comes through my door. Your pet’s well-being is always my top priority,” Martonen states on her website. “I am knowledgeable in all dog breeds and cuts.”

“I definitely take pride in it, and I want to just keep getting better and better, and eventually maybe compete in some of the dog shows,” she said.
The Divine Dog is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday. Clients may call (406) 281-1394 to make an appointment for their fur babies. The Divine Dog offers a range of services, including nail trimming, bath and brush, a full grooming package, de-shedding and de-matting, and anal gland expression.
“I just want to give a huge thank you to every single person who has supported me in this new chapter in my life,” Martonen said in a debut Facebook post. “All of my former clients who are following me — I can’t thank you enough for continuing to support me and believe in me. And to all my new clients — thank you for giving me a chance and trusting in me.”

Ebon Coffee Collective is moving into their new downtown Billings location, at 204 N. 29th St. No reopening date yet though, owner Lenny House said they have a lot of work ahead of them to make ready the mostly gutted space.
“Ebon has had downtown in its DNA since it started and that feels right,” House said.
“204 has these beautiful two-story windows,” he said. “There was a ton of plants taking up temporary residence there and a dino painted on the building; both of those are so thematically Ebon it seemed like a sign.”
Octopus Ink Art Studio, at 2201 Grand Ave., is closing by the end of March.
“The reason I’ve decided to close is, so I have the opportunity to travel in my camper and sell my artwork all over the U.S.,” owner Megan Elaine said on her social media. “Since I have no kids or husband, it’s a perfect time to chase my dream and start a new chapter in life.”
The Great Harvest Bread Co. at 907 Poly Dr. in Billings is for sale. Franchisee owners Brian and Susie Layton are looking to retire from their family-owned business of 20 years, but they are waiting for the right new owners to do so. The business is listed on bizbuysell.com for $600,000; inventory and real estate not included in asking price, property ownership is optional with business purchase.
“This turn-key business features a loyal customer base that values the exceptional quality and experience we’ve built over time. The bakery café is deeply community-centered and customer-focused, offering ample opportunity for a new owner to bring their unique vision and take it to the next level,” the Laytons wrote.  “The bakery is in a great position for new ownership, with robust systems in place and exceptional fourth-quarter sales. We exceeded expectations and closed the year in a strong position.”
