K9 Resorts to use funding to open 100 more locations

K9 Resorts Luxury Pet Hotel, a dog boarding and day care franchise brand headquartered in Fanwood, announced a $10 million investment by its largest multiunit franchisee.Â
The funds will go toward opening 100 additional locations by the end of 2025, according to a March 26 announcement. The brand currently has more than 165 resorts open or in development across 28 states. It has 10 sites in New Jersey.
The boost was provided by Partners Pacific Resorts LLC. The investor owns 30 K9 Resorts locations and has a deep background in the hospitality industry – not to mention strong ties to the Garden State. Â
The multi-brand franchise group is owned by Vanessa Kerzner, Alan Leibman, Chris Leslie and Phil Nisbet. Kerzner is a former owner and board member of Atlantis Bahamas and One & Only Hotels, while Leibman served as CEO of hotel and resort developer Kerzner International. Â
Leibman and Nisbet also own 67 Jersey Mike’s Subs and Wingstop franchise locations. Additionally, Nisbet is the co-founder of Iselin-headquartered World Insurance Associates LLC.Â
“Coming from backgrounds in the luxury hotel industry, we know first-hand how to identify concepts that will appeal to the masses and make the appropriate investments to take those businesses to the next level,” Leibman said in a statement. “Our commitment to the luxury pet hotel industry with K9 Resorts has cemented our belief that it has incredible growth potential in the coming years.”Â
Nisbet, who began franchising with K9 Resorts in 2023, also has joined the company’s board of directors.
A spot for Spot to ‘stay’
Founded in 2005 by Steven and Jason Parker, K9 Resorts offers its four-legged guests hospital-grade ventilation systems, antimicrobial flooring, cage-free luxury boarding and professionally trained staff members. Â
“In our 19 years of operation, K9 Resorts has carved its name into the top tier of pet care through our customized care and cutting-edge facilities,” said Jason Parker, who also serves as CEO of parent company K9 Resorts Franchising LLC. “With this strategic investment from Partners Pacific Resorts, K9 Resorts will continue to maintain and anticipate the exciting growth trajectory of the pet care industry.”Â
According to Allied Market Research, the global pet boarding market was valued at $19.5 billion in 2021 and is projected to reach $35.8 billion by 2031. Researchers also said that dogs are the main drivers of the industry. In the U.S. alone, 330 million people are pet parents to 80 million dogs, according to Dogster.Â
Other recent doggie day care openings around the Garden State include a sixth location for Hounds Town USA in November 2023 and new facilities from Dogtopia, announced last summer.Â
