At a Regular West Hollywood City Council meeting on Monday, March 17, 2025, The city council agreed to co-sponsor World Dog Day 2025, an annual event produced by Lisa Vanderpump’s The Vanderpump Dog Foundation, scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025, at West Hollywood Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The co-sponsorship agreement outlines facility usage and partnership terms between the city and The Vanderpump Dog Foundation. As part of this agreement, the city will waive an estimated $11,220 in fees, including Building and Safety Permit fees, Encroachment Permit fees, Film Permit fees, Major Event Park Space Use fees, Parking fees, and Special Event Permit fees. Additionally, there will be a loss of revenue of approximately $1,370 related to waived parking fees along San Vicente Boulevard and the Five-Story Parking Structure.
The event will take place in multiple areas of West Hollywood Park, including the Great Lawn Area, Promenade Area, Robertson Commons Area, and Robertson Picnic Area. The city has also authorized the use of seventy-five all-day parking validation tickets for vendors and volunteers.
World Dog Day, first held in West Hollywood Park in 2016, raises awareness about global dog abuse, particularly the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China, where an estimated 10,000 dogs are killed annually. The City of West Hollywood passed a resolution in 2016 condemning the festival, aligning with the city’s long standing support of animal rights and its reputation as one of the most animal-friendly cities in the country.
The Vanderpump Dog Foundation, founded by Lisa Vanderpump, aims to end the international dog meat trade while promoting legislation, education, and rescue efforts.
This year’s World Dog Day event will feature vendors, live music, raffles, and activities for dog lovers. The park will remain fully accessible to the public and dog park users, with waste stations and supplies provided by event organizers.
The West Hollywood Communications Department will promote the event using the city’s website and media platforms. Further event details, including vendor participation and special guests, will be announced in the coming weeks.
