Lisa Vanderpump Dog Foundation Cancels World Dog Day in West Hollywood to Safeguard Dog Wellness – WEHO TIMES

Lisa Vanderpump’s Vanderpump Dog Foundation has cancelled World Dog Day 2023 in West Hollywood this year, which was scheduled to take place at West Hollywood Park on December 2. The cancellation is to ensure all necessary precautions are taken to safeguard the health and wellness of dogs following recent news of a severe upper respiratory virus affecting dogs. According to a West Hollywood update, World Dog Day will be rescheduled in 2024.
For community members with dogs who may be concerned about this recent news, the City of West Hollywood recommends consulting your veterinarian for health and wellness information and to ensure that dogs are protected with age-appropriate and timely vaccinations.
World Dog Day is a day that focuses on a celebration of dogs. The day aims to draw attention to the amazing, empathetic creatures that dogs are, while raising awareness about global dog abuse, specifically the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. The Dog Meat Festival in Yulin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, begins on June 21 each year. More than 10,000 dogs are reported to be captured, transported in cages, and killed for human consumption every year for this annual event. In addition, more than 10 million dogs are killed annually in China for the dog meat trade. This festival epitomizes the cruelty of the dog trade industry. Many of the dogs are stolen from their owners. Many die during transport to the slaughterhouse after days or weeks without food or water, and others suffer illness and injury during transport, such as broken bones. In 2016, the City of West Hollywood passed a resolution condemning the Dog Meat Festival in Yulin.
The Vanderpump Dog Foundation was formed to aid in ending this international atrocity, and to also better the lives of dogs domestically. The Foundation is built on a platform of education, legislation, and activism. Through the organization’s legislative campaigns, domestic and international awareness, and rescue and rehabilitation efforts, it hopes to end the barbaric torture once and for all.
The first World Dog Day Event was produced and hosted by The Vanderpump Dog Foundation in 2016 in West Hollywood Park, and in Los Angeles the following year. The event returned to West Hollywood Park in 2018.

Lisa I’m from N.J. and my name is Nancy. I writing to you because I’m noticing that in our shelters, dogs are there for a very long time. I can’t even read the messages that are written about the dogs. If you can believe it some are there for 1,000 days. What are these shelters doing wrong? These dogs are adorable and I know that if they were with you they would have been with families by now. What could they be doing wrong? My heart is breaking for them!
Sincerely,
Nancy Cantrell
