Jupiter, With Difficult Start To Life, Is Huntington Pet Of The Week – Patch

HUNTINGTON, NY — Jupiter, a 1-and-a-half-year-old male orange tabby, is the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter\’s Huntington Pet of the Week.
\”Jupiter came to us through one of our rescuers…he was an un-neutered male that was living with a family for a short time before the family was displaced from their home,\” the shelter wrote. \”They thought they could easily take him into the new living arrangements but Jupiter was met with another in-house cat that was not the least bit interested in him. Jupiter tried to
make friends with the other feline but it just didn’t work out. Unfortunately his family decided he had to go somewhere else.\”
A young man wanted to adopt Jupiter, but he was not financially or physically able to properly take care of him, Larkin said.
Jupiter\’s photo was then featured on Facebook as a \”free cat,\” but a Grateful Paw rescuer intervened to get him into a safe place \”before any more trauma could happen to him,\” Larkin said. He was brought into the shelter.
Jupiter has an orange and white coat along with eyes that are expressive and look like amber
gemstones, Larkin noted.
\”He was a bit timid when he first arrived but he warmed up quickly and is the first to meet you at the door and the first at the food plate,\” she said. \”He loves to relax, will respond if you try to play with him, but he is most interested in being a \’lap\’ cat. If you sit on the floor or the bench in the
room he will walk right over, nudge you to pet him, and then make himself comfortable wherever he chooses, and that is usually on your lap or as close to you as possible.\”

Orange tabbies and ginger cats have unique personalities, Larkin said. These cats love to be in the limelight and will do everything in their power to make sure you are aware. They love to chatter, talk and snuggle. And if you are not moving fast enough in the feeding time slot, they will let you know. They love to show off their beautiful colors and will stretch out in the middle of the floor.
\”It should come as no surprise that orange/ginger cats make great advisors,\” Larkin said. \”President Lincoln once commented that his feline Dixie was \’smarter than his whole cabinet.\’ Prime Minister Winston Churchill had his favorite orange tabby Tango sitting by his side for strategy discussions.\”
Jupiter has been totally vetted, tested negative for FELV and FIV, litter-box trained and neutered.
\”He gets along with all of the other cats in the room, but he would love to be an only cat where his human can devote all of their time to making sure he is 1000% happy,\” Larkin said. \”He is another one of our cats that had a difficult start to his life and we are trying to let him know that nothing that has happened to him was his fault.\”
If you are interested in meeting Nicholas, you may call the shelter at 631-757-4517, email cats@laphuntington.org, visit the Facebook page or visit at the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter.
The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
The shelter is also open from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday nights only for those who cannot make it during the daytime hours.
\”Wouldn’t you love to give this handsome boy a forever home, where you both can snuggle in front of the fireplace watching movies and having snacks? We think he would love that!\” Larkin said.
