Alexis Montgomery, a former nurse with a lifelong passion for animals, has opened Hearth and Hound, a pet day care and boarding center, at 915 Pleasant St. in Lee in the former Love Us and Leave Us location.
Hearth and Hound, a pet day care center, is also a boarding location for cats and dogs. The business can accept up to five cats and 20 dogs for boarding.
“Nursing was really rewarding, and I loved it, but you can’t top playing with puppies all day,” Alexis Montgomery said. Montgomery is running a new pet day care business, Hearth and Hound, in Lee.

“It’s really important for dogs to enrich their minds as well as just play,” Alexis Montgomery said. “It actually extends dogs’ life spans. It’s very healthy for them.”

LEE — Ever since she was a little girl, Alexis Montgomery has been “obsessed” with animals.
“There were all these dog books that my mom got me, and I carried them around so much and read them so much that the bindings fell off and she had to tape them back,” Montgomery said with a laugh.
