A doggy day care in Harrah is scattered with debris after a preliminary EF-3 tornado tore through the town on Sunday morning.
“Dirt Road Dogs” is usually filled with pups running around and roaming free. But the property was much quieter on Monday as the business worked to pick up the damage left by the storm.
“We didn’t even have time to get our dogs. It was just, we had no time,” Juliana, who works at Dirt Road Dogs, said. “We jumped out of bed and shot across the house, and we didn’t even have 90 seconds until we made it to the storm shelter, made it to the door, and that whole fence blew off and hit us in the door as we closed it.”
She said all of the dogs were alive and accounted for, and some have been relocated to nearby businesses.
“It’s a significant loss. We’ve built this out of nothing,” Juliana said. “We aren’t able to safely care for dogs right now, so we’re very worried about what would happen. So, Camp Grace stepping up was a miracle and great community spirit.”
Dirt Road Dogs is also in the process of relocating. But the business said the storm was just a temporary setback.
“Even with the destruction we’re seeing, we aren’t even close to what some of our neighbors’ houses away are dealing with. We still have a house standing, and that’s wonderful. That’s a blessing,” Juliana said.
The Harrah Church, located at 101 S. Dobbs Road, is helping anyone that has been impacted by the storms.
