SAN ANTONIO — A girl is in the hospital after being attacked by a dog at a north-side apartment complex, according to police.
Police were called to the Canyon Oaks Apartments located at 16500 Henderson Pass.
The victim was with her friend, whose family owns the dog, outside at the complex around 4 p.m. Police say the dog got out of the apartment. When the friend told the dog to go back inside, it instead started to bark at the victim, who began to scream. This reportedly prompted the dog to start attacking her.
Police say the dog latched on to the girl’s “chest area.” A neighbor started throwing rocks at the dog after hearing the girl scream for help.
The dog was hit by a shovel by two neighbors. The dog then went after them, biting each of the neighbors. They both sustained minor injuries.
The girl was taken to hospital; her condition and age are currently unknown.
The dog, who police say might be a pit bull mix, has been contained inside of the apartment. Police say ACS is on their way to pick the dog up.
It is unknown if the owner will be facing any charges.
