A thief in Florida smuggled a pair of puppies out of a pet store in his pants while a child distracted clerks, employees and the owner said.
Surveillance video, broadcast by WKMG Local 6, shows the man take an $800 pug, shove the wriggling pup down the front of his pants, zip up and walk outside to a car.
He returned moments later, snatched a $750 miniature dachshund out of its crib and made another shuffling getaway.
Eddie Rosario, an employee at The Puppy Stop in Orlando, told Local 6 the man walked in about 6:45 p.m. on Saturday with another man, woman and a child. The normal-looking family was apparently the cover for the puppy bandit.
“They used a kid to steal a dog,” Rosario said. “I mean, you come here to steal a dog with a kid, that’s insane.”
The suspects piled into a banged up Crown Victoria after the caper and drove off with $1,550 in stolen pups.
The store has 14 security cameras that film in and outside the store. The footage shows the dog thief operating in the midst of the crowded shop as customers ogle the cuddly critters.
The owner of The Puppy Stop has offered a $250 reward, Local 6 reported.
