With the festive season fast approaching, a dog shelter has suggested sponsoring a dog in their care as a gift idea.
Dogs Trust Evesham has made the suggestion, with the charity’s ‘Sponsor a Dog Scheme’ allowing people to financially support a specific dog, providing much-needed funds for the care of the 1,600 dogs in the charity’s centres.
This sponsorship gives supporters a photo certificate, photo postcards, a window sticker, a fridge magnet, and updates from the sponsored dog on Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and summer for £1 a week.

The Evesham shelter is home to two of the 21 dogs currently available for sponsorship: Fudge and Tobias.
Fudge is a quiet Irish Terrier who prefers a calm lifestyle.
He is a creature of routine, with sudden changes and noises making him anxious.
Tobias is a nine-year-old black Labrador crossbreed.
He is sensitive and enthusiastic, loves playing fetch and learning new tricks, and is forming close relationships with his carers at the centre.
Tobias will be available to sponsor from Saturday, November 30.
Tracey Spiers, assistant manager of operations at the shelter, said: “We adore Fudge and Tobias, and I am sure the dog lover in your life will too.
“By sponsoring a dog like Fudge or Tobias, not only are you helping your chosen sponsor dog, but you are also helping us care for the hundreds of dogs being looked after within our 21 rehoming centres.
“The money raised through this scheme is vital in helping with all aspects of running our centre, from heating the kennels, providing treats and enrichment toys, training and behaviour support and any veterinary care required for our dogs.”
The charity finds homes for thousands of dogs each year, most within six weeks, but the shelter also provides prolonged care for those that need longer-term support.
For those unsure of which dog to sponsor, Dogs Trust provides a ‘Sponsor Dog Quiz’ to help make the decision easier.
