Dr. Sandra Mitchell, a veterinarian with PetMD, says salmon can be a great addition to your dog’s diet. Unlike some seafood, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reports that salmon contains very low levels of mercury.
So, adding salmon to your dog’s daily food routine can be a great way to give them an extra boost of flavor and nutrition. Salmon is a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which are great for dogs’ skin and coat health and also contains a high amount of protein. Salmon is also chock full of B vitamins. B vitamins are great for keeping your dog’s brain and nervous system healthy is vitamin B12, and salmon is rich in B12.
PetMD recommends checking with your vet before making any major changes to your dog’s diet, especially if your dog has any health conditions or sensitivities.
