A DOG which was found stabbed and chained to a lamppost has been saved by an animal shelter.
The dog – who has been named Comet – was found in a “visibly distressed” and “exhausted” state by a member of the public in Wolverhampton in December.
After undergoing urgent veterinary care at RSPCA Birmingham Animal Hospital, he was eventually transferred to Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home.
The home is just an hour away from Swindon making it one of the closest homes to the town if you are looking for a rescue dog.
RSPCA officer Bal Dhamia who rushed to the scene said Comet was still bleeding when the team arrived.
“It’s heartbreaking to see a dog with such painful injuries,” she said.
“He was very subdued and he looked exhausted when we rescued him.
“I could see he was still bleeding and in pain, he needed to be moved quickly to the hospital.”
An investigation has been launched by the RSPCA.
Staff say Comet has shown remarkable resilience during his recovery and has now been put up for adoption.
Comet has been described as a ‘lovable’ and ‘larger-than-life’ character who loves showering people with kisses.
Amy Souster, animal operations manager from CDCH, said: “Comet’s journey has been one of resilience and hope.
“Despite everything he has been through, he continues to show us so much love and trust.
“When we heard Comet’s story, our hearts went out to him.
“It was clear this poor dog had endured so much and may never have known what it’s like to be truly loved and cared for.
“Even with the busy Christmas season approaching, we knew CDCH was the best place to give him the chance of a brighter future.
“He deserves a fresh start with a family who will cherish him.”
