All of us at Pasadena Humane are busy getting ready for the Wiggle Waggle Walk & Run this Sunday, April 6, at Brookside Park.
We’re expecting close to 2,000 attendees and just as many canine companions to join us for a truly special celebration of our community’s resilience and, of course, our shared love of animals.
Between the vendor booths, agility course, and the iconic walk around the Rose Bowl, dog-watching is definitely at the top of my must-do list for the event. Dogs of all sizes, breeds, and abilities take part in the fun, helping to raise critical funds for our organization.
We’ll also have adorable, adoptable dogs at the event, ready to find their forever homes! Our mobile adoption crew will be there to help some very lovable and friendly pups find new homes.
An event like this, with so many dogs gathered in one place, truly reinforces the importance of providing your pup with top-notch training. Whether it’s attending a puppy socialization class or learning obedience skills, your canine pal is sure to reap the benefits.
To shed light on why training is so important for our canine companions, I spoke with Rochelle Guardado, Pasadena Humane’s Animal Training Manager.
Training decreases boredom which can also relieve stress and boost confidence. Teaching your dog to respond to cues is not only fun but it’s also an essential component of your pet’s safety and well-being. Dogs who have been taught how to behave are less likely to feel frustrated or engage in destructive behaviors.
Training your dog is more than just making your pet perform tricks on demand. Teaching your dog new things takes patience and close observation. You’ll discover how to effectively communicate with your pet and learn what motivates them. Training should be fun for both the learner and the trainer.
Training works best when you practice in all kinds of environments. Whether you’re already a proficient trainer or a novice pet parent, attending a public training class is worthwhile. Training around other people and dogs takes practice, and a classroom is a wonderful place to get professional feedback and learn new skills.
When selecting a training class, keep in mind your dog’s age, skill level, and what you’re looking to improve upon. For some pets who are anxious around other dogs, a one-on-one private session may be a better fit. It’s a great idea to reach out to the Animal Trainer to discuss options and make sure you’re comfortable with their training methods and types of exercises you’ll be practicing in class.
Wondering how to take the next step and put this knowledge into action? That’s where Pasadena Humane comes in. We’re proud to offer a variety of training options designed to meet the unique needs of dogs and their guardians. Whether your goal is addressing specific behavioral challenges or simply having fun while learning new skills, we have you covered.
