Boujee Beast Pet Grooming has opened in The Plaza at Rancho Bernardo.
Owner Jillian Goddard, has taken over the space that was Barkley’s Pet Spa at 16777 Bernardo Center Drive, Suite E7. Barkley’s closed on Feb. 28 and Boujee opened on March 1, she said.
“I’ve always wanted to be a salon owner,” said Goddard, who has been a pet groomer for 20 years.
The Oceanside resident said she started at Petco, then worked for several private salons, including at Barkely’s for the past two years.
“I’ve learned a lot …what is great and what can be improved,” she said. “This is my opportunity to piece it all together to have the type of shop that is efficient and beneficial for both the workers and the pets. … I want a good experience for all involved.”
A remodeling of the lobby and grooming area will begin in the next couple of weeks, after which Goddard will hold a grand opening, tentatively set for early May.
For now, Goddard and Brittney Boettcher are the groomers, assisted by Mariah Jimenez. After the remodel, Goddard said she plans to hire more employees, which will lead to expanded services.
Right now, Boujee only offers bathing and grooming services to dogs. But her goal is to offer cat services at least once a month, perhaps on a Sunday when no dogs are on the premises.
“I know a vet tech at a cat hospital and we could work together,” she said.
Goddard got into pet grooming because she likes working with animals.
“There is a creative factor. I get pups looking scruffy and dirty and make them look their best and feeling good,” she said.
Grooming sessions typically take two to four hours, though an express service is sometimes possible. Goddard said dogs should be bathed every four to six weeks and groomed every six to eight weeks. If pet owners have questions about the frequency or type of grooming their dog needs, she recommends they call with their questions.
“We are all about the comfort of the pet,” Boettcher said.
Boujee Beast Pet Grooming is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and on the first Saturday of the month. Appointments are required for baths and full-service grooming. Walk-ins are accepted for nail trimming, teeth brushing, ear cleaning and anal gland expression from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Grooming ranges from $75 to $140 depending on dog size and type of coat, as does bathing, which runs from $45 to $110. Prices vary for other services, with discounts offered to seniors and for cash payments.
Appointments are being booked two or three weeks in advance. Recurring appointments can be scheduled. For details, call 858-485-1255. A business website is being developed, Goddard said.
