Bedford Police rescued three people and a dog Saturday after they fell through the ice on the Concord River near the Carlisle Boat Ramp in Bedford.
Authorities said around 2:45 p.m. Saturday, two women were walking a dog when the dog fell through the ice of the Concord River. One woman, 72, went out on the ice to rescue the dog, only to fall through the ice herself. The second woman went out to help and also fell through the ice. A good Samaritan, seeing the women in distress, went out on the ice to assist and fell through as well.
Bedford Police officers Patrick Coady and Daniel Sanchez arrived at the scene and used throwable emergency water and ice rescue discs to rescue all three women and the dog from the river. One woman was transported to the hospital by Bedford Fire and the other two women were checked out by emergency medical services and released.
Police say that all women and the dog will be OK.
