Amanda Abbington forced to get rid of 'very aggressive' dog after it bit her son on leg – Express

Amanda Abbington spoke about her Amanda Abbington, 49, has two children from her previous marriage to fellow actor Martin Freeman, son Joe, 17, and 15-year-old daughter Grace. Speaking about her love of dogs in a new interview, the Sherlock star said the rescue dog became “aggressive” and bit the on-screen star and her son.
Amanda appeared on the podcast Oh My Dog with Jack Dee and Seann Walsh to discuss her love of dogs while also sharing stories of her pets over the years.
The actress made the shocking revelation about a dog she rescued from Romania which left herself and her son with bitten legs, leading her to make the hard decision to get rid of the pet.
Amanda began: “He was four months old when we got him. He had been found in a skip with his brothers and sisters.
“Right up until he reached maturity he was so kind and loving. The minute he hit maturity he turned, it was like a different dog!

So he’s now on a farm in France and that’s not a euphemism, he’s not dead.
He couldn’t adapt here with us.”
Seann then asked Amanda if deciding to rehome the rescue dog was a “difficult” choice, with Amanda sharing the real reasons why the pet needed a new home.
Amanda replied: “Yes it definitely was. But he started to get very aggressive with my son and bit my son and me on the leg. It was weird you could see him change.
“My dad used to come round and look after the kids and he couldn’t go in the kitchen as Leo didn’t like him.

She said: “It was breaking up with Martin and then realising I needed to sort myself out because I was a bit of a mess. I hated myself.

“It was funny because the other day, and I’ve never told anyone, not even my therapist, I’d had a row with Grace because she couldn’t find her uniform and was late for school.
“So, in the end, I had to drive her to school instead of the bus and I was sitting in the car and I was having a go at her and I was getting nothing back from her because she’s a 15-year-old and she’s going through all this stuff. She’s a girl, I’m a mother — rage, anxiety.
“And I was sat there as I was driving, in my head, and I haven’t said this since I started therapy six years ago, ‘you could always kill yourself’.
“And that was what my mantra used to be.”
She added: “If you’ve let people down and upset somebody or if you’re not being the best you can or you’re a bad mother, or you’re not stepping up with your acting, you can always kill yourself.
“That was a genuine option for me, quite a few times in my life. Then I don’t have to be this bad person because I don’t have to be here any more.
“And I thought about that and I thought, ‘Oh my God I haven’t thought about that in six years’.”
While Amanda’s relationship continues to grow with her husband-to-be, Martin is now in a relationship with fellow actress Rachel Mariam, 29.
