Guinness World Records has “temporarily” withdrawn the title of ‘oldest dog in the world’ from the Alentejo dog Bobi, while it investigates his age.

“While our investigation is ongoing, we have decided to temporarily suspend the titles of ‘oldest dog alive’ and ‘oldest dog in the world’ until everything is determined,” said a spokesman in a report by The Times.
The veterinary community raised doubts about the age of the Portuguese dog after it died in October 2023.
In February last year, Bobi became a star, when he was awarded the title of ‘oldest dog in the world’ by Guinness, after turning 30 years and 266 days old.
The average life expectancy of purebred Alentejo dogs of this breed is 12 to 14 years.
According to The Times, doubts regarding the veracity of Bobi’s age were heightened following the release of old photos of the Alentejo dog, where he appears with white paws, very different from more recent photos, where he was completely brown.
Another fact that gave rise to the investigation, according to Wired magazine, is the fact that the owners only registered him a year before he died.
At the time, Bobi’s owner declared that the dog was born in 1992. However, to the magazine, a database employee confirmed that “there was no data that could confirm or deny this statement”.
