TACOMA, Wash. — It’s a tough question for any kid – buy a Nintendo Switch or save a dog? But for Sawyer Foss, the answer was simple.
Recently, the 7-year-old Pierce County boy decided to donate his birthday money to The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County, instead of spending it on a new gaming device.
Sawyer got to meet a shelter dog who shares the same name on Thursday.
The two have a special bond.
On his birthday, Sawyer decided to donate his funds to the shelter.
“He’s a dog lover,” said Giovanna Foss, his mom. “And has a big heart for animals.”
The Humane Society wrote Sawyer a letter to say thank you.

So, Sawyer wrote back – and donated again. His letter went viral, drawing the praise of thousands online.
“It makes me generous and kind and I like helping others and that includes animals,” he said.
His donation will cover the adoption fees for Sawyer, the dog.
