South Somerset planning roundup: Chard outhouse may become new dog grooming spa – Chard & Ilminster News

MANY applications have been submitted to the Somerset Council including seeking permission to transform a Chard outhouse to a dog grooming spa and build four new holiday homes in Langport.
Miss Caroline Major has submitted a planning application to change the use of an outbuilding in her garden from an insulated storage building used for storage space since August 2021 to a professional dog grooming facility.
This will require no structural changes to be made to the outside of the building just cosmetic to make it fit for its desired use.
Caroline said the proposed change will cater to local pet owners, offering services such as washing, grooming, and nail trimming – operating on an appointment only basis.
Caroline added that whilst some of the pets will be taken to the salon by car there is a large driveway on the property which can fit two cars on it at a time so no congestion should be caused from drop offs and pickups.
She said: “This proposal represents an opportunity to support a sustainable, home-based business while maintaining the character and amenity of the local area.”
When open the salon will operate from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Closed on Sundays and public holidays.

A planning permission application was submitted by Mr, Aaron Basi on Monday, January 27 through the company Planning-By-Design to covert the upper floor commercial office space of Victoria Shopping Mews in Market Square, Crewkerne into two new living units, whilst still retaining the shops on the ground floor.
The plan details that the property will have numerous windows on the first floor where the flats are proposed so each will have at least one window that allow natural light in and ventilation.
Mr Aaron Basis states in the form that he is committed to ensuring a “comfortable” living environment for the intended occupiers of the new dwellinghouses, particularly in relation to any potential noise from nearby commercial premises.
He also asserts that no external changes will be made to the building.
The plan also includes measures to be implemented during constructions, such as soundproofing to minimize noise impact.
Aaron said: “The proposal will be well-designed to deliver significant social and economic benefits to this area while not resulting in any detrimental harm to the area’s surrounding environment.”
Two agricultural buildings will be converted into two dwellinghouses on Roe Lane Rimpton, Yeovil if the plans are approved by the Somerset Council.
Roxanne Ryall, from Higher Farm, has submitted an application on January 31 to convert two agricultural buildings to two domestic dwellinghouses with “adequate” levels of natural light.
On February 3 Emily Vincent through the company Plumbing & Heating has applied for the change of use of an existing agricultural building in Chard to form a 1 No. residential dwelling.
The land and barn that were previously used for storage have been owned by the Vincent family for years but now with the additional of storage elsewhere on the farm, the family are now in a position to apply for the proposed change to use the barn as a residential building.
This new dwelling will provide space for two additional cars and will consist of an adequate amount of natural lighting inside for guests and occupants.
The proposal seeks to retain the original features of the barn whilst providing the proposed dwelling with a modern finish.
Mr. Tim Webb has applied to erect four detached holiday lets with associated parking and landscaping on February 4.
According to Tim in the application form, through this proposal they are seeking a variation to accommodate changing market demands and enhance the visibility of the holiday let business with a mix of unit types.
Tim said that the proposed planning application meets the market demand for larger accommodation, will present “a significant opportunity for increased revenue” will further diversify the  offering, creating the option for a “more affordable” stay for individuals or couples, keep up the existing success of the site which has already obtained five-star reviews from visitors and support the local economy.
