TROY, Ala. (WSFA) – It’s haircut time at Fido’s Fine Fur Dog Grooming in Troy. The owner, Judy White, started out doing something similar but different.
“I was a beautician. Decided that wasn’t my game,” she said.
She went to grooming school and opened her own shop. She’s been doing it for 45 years. While she loves it, her daughter April White wasn’t so sure.
“No, that wasn’t my plan to start with,” said April White. “I actually wanted to be a doctor.”
“While she grew up she was like, ‘I don’t want to do that.’” said Judy White. “She’s done many things. Failed at all of them, sadly because God put his hand on them and said, ‘You’re going to be a dog groomer.’”
This truly is a family affair with mom Judy White, daughter April White and granddaughter Rae Beach.
“I picked it up, just natural, so why not roll with what’s already there,” said Beach.
Great granddaughter Quinn may be a fourth generation groomer one day. She’s only 2 years old now.
The family has two locations. One is in Troy and another, Le Bone Temps grooming, is in Panama City.
Along with grooming, the shop has dog treats and even some things for the humans.
There are some challenges when working with family.
“It tries your nerves a little bit, but we get through it,” said Beach.
“I’m the laid back one,” said April White.
“I like seeing us all kind of butt heads. It kind is iron sharpening iron,” said Beach.
“We’re still family-owned despite all of the arguments,” said April White.
“It’s fun,” said Judy White. “There are days where we each look at each other, and one of them will come up and be, ‘mom, that head’s not tight enough.’”
No drama from little Quinn. She seems to love every minute of it.
A lot of laughs and a lot of love. Judy White says this place offers something different.
“We can do dogs that nobody else can because they can feel the love. A lot of people are get the dog, throw it on the table, get it groomed, and get that money. They don’t care if the dog looks good, looks bad, the dog’s having an emotional problem. We do. We do it because we love it,” said Judy White.
For the four-footed clients, they get to be pampered pets for the day. Judy White, her daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter are all working hard to make sure they look good.
