AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – We’re learning more about the 21-year-old killed in a dog attack on Wednesday.
Richmond County deputies say Samara Rogers was walking along Ira Road when she was attacked around 10:30 Wednesday morning.
Now, 55-year-old Charles Blackwell is charged with involuntary manslaughter as the investigation into what happened continues.
We spoke to Roger’s mom, and over the phone, you can hear in her voice the pain she’s going through right now.
Rogers was supposed to celebrate her 21st birthday this weekend with her close cousins. But now, her family is planning her funeral.
Oasis VIP, located off Deans Bridge Road, has been around for 20 years and is reaching people from near and far through their radio station Oasis 97.3.
“It couldn’t be true. It can’t be true,” said Tameka Harris.
Sometimes we never understand the value of a picture until it’s all we have of someone.
“I didn’t know where she was. Why like that? It’s such a painful death,” said her mom. “And I could just hear her saying, help me. In my mind, I could just hear her saying, help me.”
Harris can’t help but think about her daughter in the final moments of her short 21 years of life.
“She was coming from school, so she had her book bag and her ID and her stuff with her,” she said. “She was so close to her house. She was just right down the street. A couple more steps and she would have been there.”
On Thursday, the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program began distributing gifts that were collected by local angels for kids in need.
Harris says Rogers just turned 21 in November.
Her entire life was ahead of her.
Now, the bubbly sister, daughter and friend will forever be 21 years old.
“Always tell your loved ones you love them. You never know when it’s going to be your last day, your last hour. We said it constantly, every time we departed. Those were our favorite words to say, ‘I love you,’” said Harris.
Harris says she wants everyone who knew and loved her daughter to remember her for how funny she was and how she smiled.
