Mumbai: The Malad police have registered an FIR against an unidentified person for allegedly killing a dog in Malad West. On Sunday, around 11am, a car hit the dog, and the driver fled the scene.
According to the FIR, the complainant, Shreya Guha, 41, a lawyer and dog lover, a resident of Malad West, received a call from her acquaintance Nita, who informed her that a car had hit a dog she used to feed daily. Guha visited the location and found blood at the spot.
She inquired with locals and learned that the car had collided with the dog, and the driver had fled. Later, two boys took the dead dog and threw it into a creek in front of the Whispering Heights building, Back Road, Malad West.
Guha filed a complaint, and the police registered an FIR under sections 11(1)(a) (Beating, kicking, overdriving, torturing, overburdening, or otherwise treating an animal in a manner likely to cause unnecessary pain or suffering) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and section 325 (committing mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming, or rendering useless any animal) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
