Three Abandoned Dogs Chained In A Neglected Shelter Found And Rescued

The Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA) recently found and rescued three abandoned dogs after receiving a call from a police officer who found the dogs in a heartbreaking situation.

On October 25, the PSPCA shared the story of three dogs – Bam, Beau, and Brenda.

“Abandoned. Forgotten. Fighting for their lives,” that’s exactly how the animal shelter found these dogs before rescuing them.

“One week ago, we received a call from a Chester city police officer stating that he was with a property owner who had discovered three dogs tied up near their business,” PSPCA revealed on a Facebook post.

But when it was time to rescue them, PSPCA was not prepared for the situation that they found the dogs in.

“When our Animal Law Enforcement team arrived, the scene was more harrowing than we could have imagined. Tied up with chains to makeshift shelters, were Bam, Beau, and Brenda.”

The animal shelter explained that it was clear that the three dogs were not cared for and were abandoned for quite a while.

Describing the heartbreaking situation the dogs were in, PSPCA wrote, “All three were suffering from fly strike, while Bam and Beau were also emaciated and covered in pressure sores.”

“Their bowls were empty, and even the bowls themselves had been chewed on in search of any last morsel of food or water,” the animal shelter adds.

While all dogs were in terrible condition, PSPCA reveals that out of the three dogs, Bam was in the worst condition.

PSPCA explains that Bam scores 1/9 on the Purina Body Condition System. Scoring a 1/9 on this scale means a dog is too thin and his ribs, spine, pelvic bones, and almost all of his bones are evident from a distance.

On top of being severely malnourished, Bam also “had wounds on his ears and a very large, painful open sore on his hind end. He had fractured teeth and was severely anemic.”

Thankfully, PSPCA rushed Bam, along with Beau, to their hospital to receive the lifesaving care they desperately needed.

“They were both started on medications to treat their wounds and refeeding plans to slowly help them gain weight,” the animal shelter shares.

The animal shelter also shares that Brenda, who was thankfully in less critical condition, received medical treatment and care. “In fact, she may soon be available for adoption,” PSPCA adds.

Furthermore, PSPCA reveals to The Dodo that Beau recently moved to the shelter’s greenhouse, a space for adoptable animals.

Meanwhile, Bam remains in the shelter’s hospital, taking all the time he needs to fully recover and heal.

“With each day that passes, all three dogs are becoming stronger and learning to open their hearts up to people,” PSPCA wrote.

“They may have been forgotten in the past, but with us, they never will be.”
